WHAT ARE TECHNOLOGICAL FORCES?
'Any interventions that can be used to promote health, to prevent, diagnose or treat Disease or rehabilitation or long-term care. This includes those used in health care, pharmaceuticals, devices and organizational systems in health care medical and surgical procedures'
Changes in things such as chirurgical procedures, medicines, and technology and equipment are part of the technological forces that affect the health industry.
Health care and pharmaceuticals:
In Colombia the advancement of new forms of drugs is increasing. Because now since President Juan Manuel Santos approved the use of marijuana in the area of health, INVIMA (National Institute of Food and Drug Monitoring ) may define requirements and mechanisms for the commercialization of new medicines based on cannabis.
It has also come to the country a platform that encourages individuals and laboratories for scientific research and innovation by an American entity.
On the other hand, there are national institutions to promote scientific and technological development: the National Institute of Health, and Colciencias.
Technology and equipment:
· By December 2015, BPM (Business Process Management) was thought in being implemented for Intensive Care Units (ICU).
· Artificial organs can now be made through a 3D printer. Organs like the pancreas are now artificial, some bones like the ones composing the skull and the jaw, and skin grafting.
· The technology and equipment available in Colombia for detecting brain complications like brain tumors, is available. Also, equipment to know how the brain of a comatose patient is being preserved is available in Colombia, too.
Chirurgical Procedures:
· Robotic surgery is being used to give precision in delicate surgeries. Things like the Da Vinci equipment and Google glasses.
In Colombia, ICESI University is leading a project towards patients with Parkinson, and it is about measuring how Parkinson evolves in the patient.
